1. Introduction to Rubber Expansion Joints

Rubber Expansion Joints are widely used in piping systems to absorb thermal expansion & compression, vibration, noise, stresses and shock. A Rubber EJ consists of a metra-style rubber bellow made from natural or synthetic elastomers, fluoroplastics and fabrics and piping connectors including loose flanges and threaded unions. Since an expansion joint usually is the weakest point of a piping system, it is mainly applied to low pressure services where large movements must be absorbed.

2. Various types of rubber expansion joints

Rubber Expansion Joints can be categorized as single sphere & double sphere types as well as concentric and eccentric reducer types according to the shape of rubber bellows. They can also be categorized as double flanged orthreaded union types as per the end connectors. In some cases, rubber expansion joints are assembled with limit rodsas support and reinforcement.
